KANBAN supply methods are very close to our heart here at G & O. We currently supply over 150 different parts using KANBAN and similar methods.
The first thing to think about when trying to improve supply performance is to understand both the demand (accounting for peaks and troughs) but also to understand the value stream for the part. Once these factors are known the relevant system can be implemented, some high value or high volume items demand multiple KANBANs with inventory (WIP) at strategic points throughout the process whilst others just demand 1 weeks buffer stock, one size never fits all!
We also offer Vendor Managed Inventory where the stock held on site at our customers remains the property of G&O until used.
One thing we are sure of is that this type of system not only reduces inventory throughout the supply chain, thus reducing cost but that it almost guarantees 100% delivery performance.
